Ilickory 'rri: The tobacco crop in this section id looking fino and a great deal of it has already been topped. The increase of this crop in Catawba u thought to be about 100 per cent. Gastonia Gazette: Some scoundrel fired and burned Mr. A. Farley's saw mill last week. The cotton gin aod house were saved; also about 1500. There is a regu lar band of thieves, it seems, operating in this section. A store has been robbed and other houses entered in this place, it is thought the saw mill was fired in order to plunder the village of Brevard. : Greensboro Patriot: The capital case of the State vs. Major Reid was called te day and continued until the regular term in September. The case was continued for the defendant upon the ground that a wrong witness had been summoned. The State interposed no objection, expressing the opinion that a further investigation of the matter was desirable. The case was oontinned, and Thursday of the first week of the term set for the trial. Statesville Landmark: Prof. W. 13. Hidden was in town yesterday. He states that be is now working 25 men and 4 horses at the Emerald and Hiddenite mine, and that he is progrM:!ug bravely. Within the past week he has made some valuable finds.
